FROM BRICKWORKS TO

HIGH-TECH COMPANY

Discover our latest computer-controlled production line in our production video. While at the beginning of GIMA’s history, bricks were still manufactured seasonally – i.e. from spring to late autumn – by hand, almost as in Roman times, the technology of brick production has changed fundamentally to this day: Today, almost all bricks and clinker bricks at GIMA are manufactured fully automatically and computer-controlled.

GET STARTED AT GIMA

OUR APPRENTICESHIPS

As a family-run company, we place great importance on employee satisfaction and the commitment of each individual. To ensure long-term success, we naturally also keep an eye on the next generation. At GIMA, we usually hire one apprentice per field of study each year. This has the advantage of allowing us plenty of time to address individual strengths and weaknesses in detail. We always train with the aim of hiring our trainees in our company after they have successfully completed their training. Training starts on September 1, and internships can of course be completed in advance.

Our requirements for applicants:

  • High school diploma or good secondary school diploma
  • Ability to work in a team, communication skills, and initiative
  • Technical understanding and skill in technical professions

We currently offer training in the following fields:

INDUSTRIAL CERAMICIST (M/F/D)

When training as an industrial ceramist, you start in our in-house laboratory to learn and apply basic ceramic knowledge. You then accompany the production process—from raw materials to the finished product. This involves operating production equipment and working on drying and firing systems. The training lasts up to 3.5 years, with theoretical vocational school training taking place at the State Vocational School Center for Product Design and Testing Technology in Selb.

ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN FOR OPERATIONAL TECHNOLOGY (M/F/D)

Electronics technicians for industrial engineering install, maintain, and repair electrical operating, production, and process equipment. The spectrum ranges from switchgear and control systems to energy supply systems and communications and lighting technology equipment. The training lasts 3.5 years and can be shortened if the candidate has the appropriate qualifications.

INDUSTRIAL MECHANIC (M/F/D)

During training as an industrial mechanic, you will first learn the basics of metalworking. All machines and systems in the factory are maintained and repaired by our own metalworking shop. This involves replacing motors and bearings as well as maintaining and repairing pneumatic and hydraulic controls. Of course, the planning and installation of new systems is another part of the training at GIMA. The training lasts 3.5 years and can be shortened if you have the appropriate qualifications.

CONSTRUCTION DRAUGHTSMAN/WOMAN IN CIVIL ENGINEERING (M/F/D)

When training to become a draughtsperson, you first learn the basics of creating plans and drawings using common CAD programs. You will then go on to produce specialist calculations, measurements, and as-built plans for numerous projects. As a full member of the team, you will also be involved in construction processes, coordinating workflows, and quality assurance measures. The training program lasts 3.5 years and can be shortened if you have the appropriate qualifications.

OFFICE MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT (M/F/D)

When training as an office management assistant at GIMA, you will be responsible for sales and administration. Office management assistants organize and handle office management tasks. They also perform commercial activities in areas such as order processing, procurement, accounting, marketing, and human resources management. The training program lasts three years and can be shortened if you have the appropriate qualifications.

INDUSTRIAL CLERK (M/F/D)

As an industrial clerk trainee at GIMA, you will be responsible for sales and administration. Industrial clerks deal with commercial and business management tasks such as materials management, sales and marketing, human resources, finance, and accounting. The training program lasts three years and can be shortened if you have the appropriate qualifications.

Interview with Moritz Schindlbeck

Moritz Schindlbeck began his training at GIMA 10 years ago. After completing several further training courses, he is now assistant to the technical management at GIMA.
In this interview, you will learn what added value GIMA offers trainees and employees and what advantages there are to learning and working in a medium-sized company.

GIMA: What made you decide to do your apprenticeship at GIMA 10 years ago, and what has your career path been like?

Moritz Schindlbeck: I first did a student internship at GIMA and was really impressed by the wide range of varied tasks that the electrical engineering team at GIMA handles themselves. That’s why I started my apprenticeship here as an electronics technician for industrial engineering. After completing my apprenticeship, I decided to continue my education and become a state-certified electrical engineer. In autumn 2018, I also decided to pursue further training to become a technical business administrator. Since successfully completing my training, I have been assisting our technical operations manager.

GIMA: What apprenticeships are generally available, and what makes GIMA a great place to train?

Moritz Schindlbeck: The company offers training in technical fields as well as in sales and administration. The specific professions in which we offer training are: industrial ceramist, office management assistant, industrial clerk, industrial mechanic, electronics technician for industrial engineering and architectural draughtsman.

The apprenticeships at GIMA are all very varied and educational. We achieve this by usually only hiring one apprentice per training year and occupational field, allowing our trainers to focus on them. Our goal is also to hire every apprentice after their training, whether in the department in which they were trained or in another exciting area.

GIMA: What opportunities for further training are there at GIMA?

Moritz Schindlbeck: As a company, we want to continuously improve our quality and service. Of course, this also requires a strong team. When new managers, department heads or plant managers are needed, we usually cover the demand with our own staff. This has advantages for the company, but also for our employees who want to develop professionally. The next step is often accompanied by relevant further training to acquire certain management skills. We therefore welcome it when employees enrol in a course to become a master craftsman, technician or specialist. If interested, they can then go on to study business administration or technical business administration.

GIMA: What positions are generally available?

Moritz Schindlbeck: In addition to our apprenticeships, we also offer a number of jobs at our factory, e.g. as plant operators or skilled construction workers. As an employer, it is important for GIMA to retain its employees in the long term and build up important expertise. In addition to a fair salary, there are other benefits such as holiday pay, Christmas bonuses and capital-forming benefits. The tasks are varied and diverse. Above all, however, you have the opportunity to become part of a successful medium-sized company in the long term. Even in difficult economic times, the company has proven to be crisis-proof. For example, we were able to continue production during the lockdown without introducing short-time working. If you are interested, you can always find current job vacancies on our website. We are always happy to welcome motivated new colleagues!
